Getting published in an online journal is a great way to get your name and your work out there, and a realistic goal for many writers.  The internet is full of publication journals.  These journals regularly put out print and online issues on subject matters diverse and varied.  Medical, science, gardening, music, teaching- the subjects you could write about for an online publication journal is endless.
